Miss Dorian Lane
In an age when women were only beginning to find political and business freedom, Dorian is already powerful among the Cleveland elite. She is sought after by those who wish to use her power for their purpose and feared by the ones who would stand in her way. Dorian is quite the enigma in one sense, but completely transparent on the turn of a different hand. Dorian is entirely faithful to those she loves and will do anything for them; as long as she gets her way. When she doesn't, she is known to fly into a rage and can be heard screaming at her Father in his private den. Somehow, her Father is always able to calm her, as she usually leaves the room with a grin on her face. She is the daughter of Siegfried and Elizabeth Lane; her mother now long dead from consumption when Dorian was a little girl. Dorian has had a long succession of suitors. Her beauty and power are the talk of much of the northeastern states, and it has gained her much willing devotion. Dorian's childhood best friend, and now returned to Cleveland 'best lady', is Leila Trent. Such is their friendship that they often find their way into trouble, but have great fun doing it! And so it is when the Harvest Ball of 1898 arrives.
