Taggart

TaggartTaggart is known only by his last name except to a few close friends.  Very few know exactly where he came from, but it is known he is a former Civil War soldier who carries an officer's sword, bowie knife, and pistol.   Some say he fought for the South (the “wrong side” to most Ohioans). “He must have been an officer because of the quiet and dutiful manner in which he listens to his mistress and carries out her orders.”   It is true that Taggart was a Rebel, and still is in his heart. He served in the Virginia 7th Calvary regiment.   He settled in Ohio after the Civil War when he was released from the Johnson's Island Confederate Officer's Prison near Marblehead, Ohio.  With no family left in Virginia, he was offered a postion as the guardian of the Lane 'estate',  Mr. Lane would not take no for an answer after Taggart saved his life by chasing away an attacking wolf.  Taggart is a proper gentleman if a bit rough on the exterior; quiet most of the time except when he's talking about his military training.  Then he gets very excited and his eyes glow with wonderful memories of battles past.  His only real friend is Sara "the Hunter" who he rescued from the sad life of a flower girl off the streets of Cleveland.
